At Brooklyn’s we want to be as transparent as possible with regards to the work we will undertake on your behalf, the costs attached to that work and any other disbursements. Before we start any work on your behalf a Letter of Engagement will be drafted and given to you to agree and sign. Our Terms of Business will also be included.


The Letter of Engagement will be clearly set out and will state who will be dealing with your case and what their responsibilities are. Legal fees, expenses and disbursements will also be clearly set out. All fees are subject to VAT which is charged at 20%. 


Money Laundering checks will also be completed this will also be set out in the Letter of Engagement .

Costs for Motoring Offences


We have dealt with many Motoring Offences and all cases are different as they have different events, facts and mitigating circumstances, however, on average you can expect to pay *£1000 - £1,200 + VAT for an uncontested hearing at the Magistrates Court. This figure includes taking instructions from you, preparation of your case and instruction of an advocate to attend court with you.
Serious and fully contested cases will be more expensive. Call us now to discuss.

Debt Recovery Cases


Whether you are an individual or a business owner, if you are having a dispute over non-payment of an invoice or fees, most debtors will respond to a letter before action, and some may not. In those circumstances it may be necessary to issue court proceedings to recover the unpaid debt.
All debt recovery cases have different circumstances and we offer a range of fees dependant on your circumstances. Our hourly rates range from £170 - £350 per hour + VAT.


In some instance it may be possible to agree a set fee for a letter before action. Please e-mail or call to discuss. One hour initial consultation: £170.00 plus vat. We will not carry out any work on your behalf until a Letter of Engagement has been sent to you setting out clearly the work we will do, who is doing the work and the cost of that work.   • Employment Law

    Fees can vary with Employment law depending on circumstances and most cases can be settled without the need of going to an Employment Tribunal.


    If you are an employee: 


    Simple Case: *£4,000 -£6,000 + VAT

    Medium Complexity *£6,000 - £10,000 + VAT

    High complexity *£10,000 – £20,000 + VAT

     

    If you are an employer fees can be slightly higher depending on the case as there is, more often than not, more work to done. Should a case proceed to a Tribunal Hearing there will be an additional charge for attending of £1,000 + VAT.

  • Probate

    Obtaining probate banking, distributing funds and properly transferring real estate is a complex process. Any executor bears an enormous weight of responsibility to the various beneficiaries, we can assist in full or in part to make this task easier for you and help guide you through the process.


    Probate fees are charged at an hourly rate of £300 + VAT, plus a percentage value of the estate, plus disbursements. 


    Value of estate other than the deceased’s residence – 1%

    The deceased’s residence – 0.5%

     

    These fees will also apply where Brooklyn Law are appointed as Professional Executers and Trustees of your Estate. 


    We also deal with intestate estates, which is when someone dies without a will.


    We do not deal with Complex Trusts.

    • Oath Swearing Fees – up to £9 per person.
    • Land Registry Fees £3-£6 per property for updated entries.
    • Land Registry fee on registration of beneficiaries £40.

    • £550 + VAT plus Registration Fee of £82 for Health & Welfare LPA

    £550 + VAT plus Registration Fee of £82 for Property & Finance LPA

  • Wills

    Simple Will - fixed fee of £300 + VAT


    Complex Wills £300 + VAT per hour

  • Family/Divorce Cases

    Some examples of likely *fees are as follows:


    •  Initial Consultation: £280 + VAT
    • Standard divorce/separation proceedings with limited financial issues and no child law concerns £1000 - £1200 + VAT, plus Court Fees of £550. 
    • Acting for you as the Respondent in undefended divorce proceedings £750 + VAT 
    • Complex divorce with complex financial and property issues. Costs of negotiation are dealt with at an hourly rate of £300 + VAT per hour. Estimated initial negotiation costs £1,200 + VAT. 
    • Cohabitation/Pre-Nuptial Agreement – Dependent on complexity £1,200 - £1800 + VAT
    • Contact/custody of children where partner is reasonable, 1-2 children – costs to and including first Directions Hearing £1,000 + VAT
    • Contact/custody with an entirely unreasonable and hostile partner, 1-2 children – costs to and including first Directions Hearing £2,000 + VAT.

    In complex divorce if agreement is not reached at an early stage and proceedings are issued, costs to a First Hearing (FDA Hearing) are estimated at £4,000 to include **Counsels fees + VAT. Court Fees are £255. 


    If agreement is not reached and the matter proceeds to a Financial Dispute Resolution Hearing (FDR hearing) the costs are estimated to be £8,000 to include **Counsels fees + VAT. 


    If the case proceeds to a final hearing without agreement being reached and depending on the length of the final hearing, estimated costs would be between £15,000 - £20,000 + VAT. Counsel’s fees would not be included in this as a quote would have to sort from chambers. We would estimate £2,500 + VAT per day.


    In addition, when assessing the possible disbursement costs which are likely to be incurred, please remember that we cannot control the high costs sometimes charged by the Court Service and other Government agencies and you must pay these.

  • How can I pay?

    You can pay via cheque, credit/debit cards or by bank transfer. In all cases you will be the subject of an anti money laundering check, which is required by the Law Society.



    If legal aid is granted you may not need to make any contribution. However if you do, then payment is made to the Legal Aid Agency.

  • How does legal aid work?

    Legal aid is funded by tax payer’s money and is essentially paid by the Government. Due to the changing nature of legal aid, any sort of defendant on a reasonable salary or with savings, will be expected to contribute. For those on benefits or low income, legal aid will be free of contribution.
